My name is Amanda, and I have 20 years of Harlem knowledge and friendships to share with you. My walking tours are a magical, immersive experience designed to welcome you into our neighborhood as a visitor and friend. Everyone is welcome to the cookout! We welcome new and experienced musicians to hang in Harlem to collaborate with some of the best musicians in the world.
Come enjoy the culture, food and history and music as it vibrates through the sidewalks and street that were traversed by the greats like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Dizzy Gillespie. When you are with Amanda The “BlayWest (The Black Mae West) of Harlem”, you never know what may happen! You may find yourself transported to the roaring 20’s or celebrating contemporary Jazz at 3AM in the morning!

We spent a lovely evening with Amanda, listening to Jazz music in two clubs in Harlem, December 2024. It was a positive experience. The music on offer is truly high quality and Amanda has a very in-depth knowledge of both music and society, and loves sharing information and stories with her guests. Amanda's tour is certainly an interesting experience and is a great opportunity for those who know how to play: Amanda, in fact, offers anyone who wants it the opportunity to go on stage and be a direct participant in the show for an evening. We recommend this experience as a unique opportunity for those who want to play jazz in the company of great musicians. On stage, especially in the first venue, there have been very interesting artists and Amanda herself has remarkable skills and stage presence. We thank Amanda for her hospitality and we hope to meet her again in the future.

On October of last year (2024) I took 40 students from my school in the UK to listen to some live jazz in Harlem. Few, if any of the students (aged 14-16) were familiar with the world of jazz so I was a little nervous about how the students would react to the event. I need not have worried - they absolutely loved it!
I had been in touch with Amanda weeks before we arrived in New York, telling her of my plans to bring the students to Harlem. Amanda then set about putting the event together and the end product was wonderful - 90 minutes of jazz with 4 superb musicians in a fabulous venue, the historic Langston Hughes' House. Not forgetting Amanda of course, working her charms to make the students feel welcome. It wasn't long before the students were up dancing - well, some of the more confident ones anyway.
At the end of the event the students were buzzing. As well as the music they loved the inspirational words of Amanda and the musicians. And at the end of the trip to New York many students said that this was one of the highlights of their week in New York. Amanda, Harlem and jazz all left their mark on our group and I'll definitely be doing this again this year when I'm back with the next group. And hopefully, we might even have inspired some students to broaden their musical tastes and start listening to and playing a little jazz.
